Household gloves
Household gloves are a group of products that includes gloves intended for domestic use – cleaning, gardening, washing up, etc. They are usually packaged in pairs, made of yellow latex and distinguished between right and left hands.
Household gloves – what are they and where are they used?
Household gloves are anatomically shaped – they are tailored to the right and left hand, making them very comfortable to work in, even for long periods of time. The material most commonly used in the production of household gloves is very flexible and resistant to damage – latex. Utility gloves are often finished on the inside with flock or microflock (cotton lining), which makes it easy to take the gloves on and off and absorbs moisture that accumulates inside the glove during prolonged use. An additional function of the inner layer called flock is to insulate the glove material from direct contact with the hand, which helps to protect the user from a possible allergic reaction resulting from contact with latex.
Household gloves, which are category I personal protective equipment, are used for simple cleaning tasks in which highly concentrated cleaning agents or other irritating chemicals are not used. Before working with specific chemicals, always check whether contact with a given chemical requires the use of protective gloves that are personal protective equipment of a higher category than I. It is also worth remembering that if gloves are to be used in food processing, they should be marked with the appropriate symbol indicating that they are approved for contact with food.
What should you look for when buying household gloves?
When buying household gloves, you should first and foremost pay attention to choosing the right size. Gloves that are too large will prevent you from working efficiently because they will slip off your hands, especially when performing tasks involving water or cleaning agents. Gloves that are too tight will constrict your hands, making it uncomfortable to perform tasks for long periods of time and may irritate the skin on your hands. Household gloves are usually available in a wide range of sizes (from S to XXL), so you can precisely match the size of the gloves to the size of your hands.
An important feature of household gloves to consider before purchasing is their length. It is recommended that gloves intended for household work should be no shorter than 30 cm. This is particularly important when working in wet environments, where there is a risk of the gloves getting wet due to liquid getting inside them. A long cuff in a household glove not only provides the user with additional protection against getting their hands wet, but also improves comfort at work because, when the glove cuff is pulled over the cuff of an apron, for example, the glove does not slip off during work
